Another Happy Sara Mique Client

Here’s to another happy Sara Mique client! She was smiling from ear to ear when she found us.  She was looking for a dress to wear to a destination wedding in Jamaica at the end of January. She tried on a few styles but knew when she put on this dress that it was going to be hers.

The dress was everything she wanted.  The cold shoulder top flattered her perfectly with a nice little sleeve to cover the arms but revealing the shoulder for a little sex appeal. The trumpet skirt  fit and flared in all the right places accentuating her feminine figure. She expecially loved the comfort of the wave lace fabric which moves easily with the body. And the color, well that was the icing on the cake, the Powder complements her coloring so nicely. But remember…a Sara Mique can be an color you want!

However don’t forget the ever essential fashion tip of dressing for your shape. If you don’t love your arms, be sure to wear a style with sleeves. Though, this doesn’t mean you have to wear a caftan! If you would like to mask your stomach opt for an empire waist and fabric that floats over the midriff. An a-line skirt or flowing fabric skirt will always disguise womanly hips.

After 25 years of providing thousands of women each year with uniquely elegant evening wear, the previously New York City-based fashion house Sara Mique has completely moved its operation to South Florida. In March 2009, the chic Sara Mique retail showroom celebrated its grand opening in Coconut Creek, Fla., on the same site as the design and production facility. The showroom is a stunning all-white space with a beautiful glass floor, stunning chandelier, white leather furniture and wine and espresso bar.

Sara Mique Showroom

The showroom features the unique, hand-made garments for which Sara Mique is renowned: non-traditional wedding dresses, special occasion dresses for destination weddings, black tie or cocktail party dresses, mother-of-the-bride dresses, separates and more in a variety of sizes (including plus sizes). Also on display in the showroom, Sara Mique’s new “Florida Casual Collection” includes interesting and fun “dinner tops” that clients can wear with pants and jeans, or with the new Sara Mique skirt collection.

Top 10 Reasons For Wearing A Non-Traditional Wedding Dress

A Unique Dress For Your Special Day

Getting hitched is no longer limited to wearing a traditional white wedding dress. Non-traditional wedding dresses are gaining popularity especially with the more fashion forward brides who want to be dressed in a wedding gown that exudes their personality and personal style. More than anything, a wedding dress should be defined by the bride and not the other way around. Who cares then if eyebrows are raised or murmurs are incited? What’s important is the bride’s comfort, confidence and happiness in what she is wearing, whether it’s a pink gown, a short dress or even a pantsuit.

If you’re planning your wedding and thinking of ways to spice up the occasion, you might want to consider having a themed or non-traditional wedding. Moreover, you can go with a conventional ceremony with a twist of originality by donning on a non-traditional wedding dress. If the bride is the center of attention in her long, pure white wedding dress, just imagine how you would be in a non-traditional wedding dress.

Not convinced? Read on and find the top reasons why non-traditional wedding dresses are fast becoming a fashion trend in the wedding biz.

1. Low! Low! Low! Price
Sure, you can go for a low neckline (especially if you dig sexy dresses) as long as it looks appropriate enough for your wedding ceremony. Low here however, is way better. It’s a practical reason for wearing a non-traditional wedding dress – low cost! That’s right, you get to save and allot your finances to other wedding expenditures like wedding favors, food and of course, drinks! A non-traditional wedding dress is perfect for budget weddings as it is much cheaper than a traditional wedding gown, and for informal weddings where wearing a grand and embellished gown can look out of place. Think of a City Hall wedding. Don’t you think Carrie Bradshaw’s white skirt ensemble paired with a bold-colored Jimmy Choo looked more suitable to her exchange of “I do’s” with Big? That is one chic non-traditional, low cost wedding dress (she got hers from a thrift store, remember?) in a non-traditional wedding.

2. Stress-Free Shopping
Shopping for a non-traditional dress is a walk in the park compared to buying a traditional, more elegant gown. You might even find your wedding outfit in just a day of shopping. There is less hassle as most non-traditional wedding dresses don’t have the usual long train and veil. Without a doubt, a non-traditional wedding dress is easier to purchase. You can simply visit a local specialty store, browse through a fashion catalog or surf the internet. A hassle-free task in your wedding checklist. At least, you get to reduce some of the stress that goes with planning a wedding.

3. Brides Just Wanna Have Fun!
Say goodbye to the rigid, almost austere atmosphere of a conventional wedding ceremony, where unless the groom comically fumbles his way to his vows, the relaxed ambiance won’t be nowhere near until the end. Perhaps only in time for the photo session or during the open bar at the reception. Wearing a non-traditional wedding dress gives off a more casual, fun feel to the occasion. It lowers the formality decibel a little bit and helps you and everybody else relax. Plus, with a wedding dress that you genuinely like and one that says “I’m different!” you would certainly be a more comfortable and confident bride.

4. Wear It Again
Wise spending is advisable particularly at this time when the economy is in a sorry state. Better to save for the rainy days, right? Wedding dresses are usually stored into oblivion perhaps until a daughter or a sister gets married and the dress becomes a family heirloom. But that’s what, 25 years later? With a non-traditional wedding dress on the other hand, especially those with an everyday style like a skirt and top ensemble, cocktail dress, sundress or a simple long white dress, you can wear it again, anytime! You would be maximizing your money’s worth.  Such a significant dress deserves to be worn again and again, don’t you think? Attending parties and other special occasions won’t have to be worrisome with a beautiful dress standing by. You certainly can’t do that with a traditional wedding gown, can you? Come on, even if you do away with the veil and gloves, the most formal parties don’t merit the presence of such a grand outfit.

5. A Splash of Color
Non-traditional wedding dresses are mainly characterized by their color, which veers away from the customary white. The more subtle non-traditional wedding dresses may still be in white but with an accent of another color, such as Gwen Stefani’s striking John Galliano couture wedding gown with a shade of pink at the hem. The more adventurous brides meanwhile, use a solid color for their wedding dress. Top favorites are red, purple, blue, pink and green. A non-white wedding dress is a choice for brides who are getting married a second (or more) time. With brights, solids or pastels for a wedding dress, this surely is reason enough to make the wedding a more colorful affair.

6. Ideal for A Themed or Destination Wedding
What better way to complement a themed wedding than with a non-traditional wedding dress? This type of wedding is considered informal with attires, concept and sometimes a ceremony that deviate from the customary proceedings. A non-traditional wedding dress is a perfect fit for such a creative and personalized occasion. Examples of concept weddings are Medieval, era style like 1920s or 1940s, underwater and winter nuptials. An old-fashioned wedding gown style may not look too fitting, and this is where the customized wedding dresses, matching the occasion come in. Some destination weddings also call for non-traditional wedding dresses, where suiting the ceremony to the location’s culture is mostly adapted. A good case is Elizabeth Hurley’s Indian wedding where she wore a bright sari instead of a white wedding dress. Couples who opt for an Asian-inspired wedding either on Asian soil or merely in theme use Asian fashion particularly in the patterns (floral), textures (silk) and colors (red).

7. Chilling Out at the Beach
If you’re having a beach wedding, a non-traditional wedding dress is better. You don’t have to worry about lugging extra weight in the sand from your gown. With a non-traditional wedding dress, you can do away with stilettos, corsets, train and other formal accessories. A sundress, short dress or simple yet elegant long, flowing white dress will look beautiful amidst the backdrop of the ocean, sand and blue sky. A bonus is that you get to spend for a low cost wedding dress. Partying after will also be a blast with an easy and comfy dress to wear.

8. Celebrating your Heritage
This is true for those who want to incorporate their cultural practices in the wedding. A bride can wear a kimono, sari, ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress), cheongsam (Chinese traditional dress) and others. It’s not just through the ceremony that couples can show and be proud of their heritage but also in the wedding attires they’re wearing.

9. Reliving an Old-age Practice
Did you know that wedding dresses were unknown garments in the early times? It wasn’t until the 1940s that wedding dresses were introduced. Beforehand, women wore clothing what was in vogue for their wedding. Hence, by wearing a non-traditional wedding dress you are actually reviving and honoring a long-standing custom. Talk about bringing back to style what was long forgotten but historically significant in the world of fashion. Now that’s what we can call a chic and original bride.

10. Expressing Yourself
Getting married should be a joyous occasion, one that celebrates the love between two people in love. Your wedding is about you (and your groom). If you feel happy wearing a bright-colored wedding dress or a tutu gown, then by all means, wear it! If you and your man are crazy about Neverland and want to get married in a Peter Pan costume and Tinkerbelle dress, you’re free to do so. Celebrate your individuality on your wedding day whether in color, design or style. Our clothing style mirrors our personality so it’s the best venue for you to share yourself with the special people whom you invited to witness your memorable day.

Non-traditional wedding dresses are not all avant garde, atrocious and loud. They can be simple, clean cut and pretty. There are different a  that you can select from to suit your personality. Non-traditional wedding dresses are a unique way to show who you are as an individual.
